Common darnel, common daisy (Bellis perennis)

The word "bellis" in the Latin name for the daisy comes from the Latin word bellus, which means "beautiful" or "pretty," referring to the enchanting floral splendor this small flower brings. The native wild species of the daisy, the daisy, is particularly common in meadows and pastures in spring.

Blossom:

The flower heads, usually up to 7 cm in diameter and growing individually on 15 to 20 cm long stems, are densely filled and round. The center is usually yellow, while the petals are white, pink, or red.

Growth:

In the first year, flat leaf rosettes form, while in the second year, solitary flower heads grow on long stems. The leaves are entire and elongated; they are usually a deep dark green.

Location:

Massifs prefer either full sun or partial shade, and the soil should be loamy and rich in humus. They are particularly well-suited as borders for flower beds. If you're looking for a balcony decoration, Massifs are also suitable for cultivation in tubs or window boxes. Muscari and botanical tulips are particularly suitable as bed neighbors.

Care:

Unfortunately, sweet peas are quite susceptible to powdery mildew, gray mold, and aphids. If you discover any of these diseases, you must act quickly before they can spread. It's best to drastically prune the affected shoots or plants. If you want your sweet peas to survive the winter unscathed, you should also cover the seedlings with spruce branches to protect them from excessively cold temperatures.

Reproduction:

Direct sowing outdoors can take place in June and July, and you should then transplant your seedlings to their final location in September.

Varieties:

'Pomponette Mix': Flowers in white, pink and red possible, densely filled
'Robella': salmon-pink flowers, densely filled with a diameter of 4 to 5 cm
'Alba Plena': white flowers, double
