Make your own floating window sill – DIY hanging shelf made of wood and jute string
With this simple DIY, you can conjure up a stylish, floating windowsill in no time – perfect as a plant shelf, bookshelf, or decorative highlight. All you need is a wooden board, some jute twine, and a few simple steps. Whether attached to the curtain rod or with traditional ceiling hooks: This airy solution not only adds more space but also adds real charm to your window.

Material:
wooden board
80 x 20 x 1.8 cm
Jute cord Scissors Stapler Tape measure Ceiling hook if necessary
Here's how it's done:
STEP 1
Choose a window where you want to hang the windowsill. The wooden board can be easily attached to a curtain rod, for example.
STEP 2
Measure the height you want the board to hang from the curtain rod. Then cut the cords to the appropriate length. Remember to double the cord and take the width of the board into account.
STEP 3
Wrap your cord around the board, leaving a gap of approximately 10–15 cm, and tie a loop on each side. To prevent slippage, staple the cord to the bottom of the windowsill. Then attach the cords to the curtain rod. Or, if there is no curtain rod, screw ceiling hooks into the windowsill or ceiling for hanging.
Tip
Of course, the new windowsill can also be painted. Let your creativity run wild!
