Variety description: Borage is an annual herb that's ideal for use in small bouquets. Its small blue flower heads and leaves and stems, covered in tiny hairs, also provide ample food for insects. The flowers and young leaves can be used to enhance dishes and have a cucumber-like flavor. Details: Sowing outdoors: April to June Germination time: 10-14 days at 8-18°C Sowing depth: 2 cm Height: 60 cm Planting distance: 30-40 cm Flower size: 1-2 cm Flowering time: June to September Soil: Undemanding, permeable soil Fertilization: With compost Location: Sun/partial shade Water consumption: Moderately dry to humid Growing tips: Borage is best sown directly outdoors starting in April. We've had good results soaking the seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing. The plants can grow quite lush, so a sheltered location or support is advisable. Because the plant has deep roots, it is also used as a green manure. A sufficient planting distance of 30-40 cm is recommended, as the plant can be susceptible to powdery mildew if there is little air circulation. Use: cut flower kitchen herb Insect-friendly Bag contents: Approx. 50 seeds Store in a cool, dry place.
