Instructions
Cast on 8 sc in a yarn ring.
Double round 1: crochet 2 sc in each stitch (= 16 stitches).
Round 2: double every 2nd stitch (= 24 stitches).
Round 3: double every 3rd stitch (= 32 stitches).
Round 4: double every 4th stitch (= 40 stitches).
Round 5: double every 5th stitch (= 48 stitches).
Round 6: double every 6th stitch (= 56 stitches).
Round 7: double every 7th stitch (= 64 stitches).
Round 8: double every 8th stitch (= 72 stitches).
Round 9: double every 9th stitch (= 80 stitches).
Crochet 8 rounds of sc straight up.
Then decrease the same way again: Round 18: crochet the 9th and 10th stitches together. Round 19: crochet the 8th and 9th stitches together, etc.
Stuff the pumpkin as long as the hole allows. Pull the last 8 stitches together, leaving a thread length of about 1 meter. Now, thread this thread through the center of the pumpkin, around the outside, and then through again from the bottom. Pull the thread taut, creating 8 segments all around. Tie a knot and sew the thread.
For the stem, use a size 3 crochet hook to form a ring with 10 ch and a sl st. Work 4 rounds of double crochet stitches all around. In the next 3 rounds, work the first and second double crochet stitches together. Attach the last stitch to the first stitch of the round with a sl st. Weave in the yarn or pull the thread inside the stem. Sew the stem to the center of the pumpkin.
Another tip:
If you fill the pumpkin with dried peas, it makes a decorative doorstop.

Stitch joy from nature. Whether mushrooms and ferns from the forest or animal holiday acquaintances from the deep sea: all of these natural objects can be crocheted at home. Sometimes humorous, sometimes confusingly similar, but always precisely observed and lovingly crafted, author Hanna Erhorn creates timeless depictions of plants and animals in her nature crochet projects. Simple crochet stitches transform into small wonders – inspired by nature's inexhaustible repertoire.
The effort is minimal; most projects only require a crochet hook and less than a ball of wool.
