Make your own summer berry schnapps – fruity liqueur with a spicy note
1 kg fresh mixed berries (currants, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries)
125 g brown sugar
6 cloves
6 juniper berries
3 cinnamon sticks
1 l double grain schnapps
Shelf life: approx. 6 to 8 months
Here’s how to prepare it:
Sort the berries, rinse them carefully, and layer them with sugar in a large fermentation vessel. Let it steep until a salt solution forms. Add the spices and pour the schnapps over them, making sure the berries are completely covered.
Place the mixture in a sunny, warm spot and shake occasionally. Let it steep for 6 to 8 weeks.
Filter the mixture, pour the liquor into the prepared bottles, seal, and let it steep for another 8 to 10 weeks. The longer it sits, the better the liquor will taste.
